Dozens of runners honor Richwoods High School alumnus for St. Jude

PEORIA (25News Now)—Hundreds of runners will join together today to continue St. Jude’s lifesaving mission through St. Jude Runs.

Runners from Richwoods to Peoria will run about 30 miles today with the goal of raising $37,000. This year there are 37 runners and each is responsible for raising $1,000 in funds.

They started at Richwoods High School this morning and headed to the Peoria Civic Center in the afternoon.

The race was started in memory of Richwoods alumnus Nick Rudolph, who was a St. Jude patient and lost his battle with cancer.

Runners made stops along the way, including Tower Park in Peoria Heights, where they were greeted and cheered on by friends and loved ones.

Runners will make an important stop at Nick’s final resting place, where they will pay tribute to him.

Race coordinators Nyssa Catton and Kelsey Suydam say that while the race may seem daunting, it doesn’t compare to the daily struggles St. Jude patients and their families face.

“Right now, we’re just remembering the families of St. Jude and the amazing support we’re showing them by going out into the community. We’re not just raising money, we’re raising awareness,” Suydam said.

“If you think this is hard, imagine being a family that has to watch their child fight for their life,” Catton said.
