Jets offense struggles to break free from short game

Observations from Monday’s Jets training camp practice:

Stealth resolution

Jamien Sherwood made the play of the day, intercepting Aaron Rodgers as the quarterback attempted to go up the middle into traffic, falling with the ball after it was initially thrown into the air.

Off the mark

The offense as a whole struggled throughout the game, with Rodgers missing a deep pass and most of his completed passes being for short gains.

Andrew Peasley, who is competing for a third-string quarterback job, had a particularly rough practice, throwing a pair of interceptable passes that completely missed the target.

He caught my attention

While Olu Fashanu has worked exclusively on the left side during camp, Robert Saleh said he anticipates Fashanu will see time on the right side as well. That would bolster the Jets’ depth, should they need to use Fashanu as a swing tackle at some point.

Rodgers Report

On a tough day for the offense, Rodgers went 4-of-8 passing, threw an interception and took an unofficial sack.

Center Joe Tippmann also continued to be less than perfect when passing the ball to Rodgers, a trend throughout camp.

Injury Report

Left tackle Tyron Smith missed a second straight practice with lower-extremity tightness.

Michael Carter II (ankle) did not practice. Receiver Irv Charles limped off after a collision late in practice.
