Man found asleep in crashed truck with open alcohol containers arrested for drunk driving

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A man who police say had his license suspended five times was arrested in Jackson County Sunday after he was found asleep in the driver’s seat of a truck stuck in a ditch.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies report they were called to the scene of a crash on Bumpnose Road in Marianna around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. They said when they arrived, they found an unmarked pickup truck stuck in a ditch on the side of the road.

Authorities said the driver, Roy Collins, was found sleeping in the driver’s seat and open containers of alcoholic beverages were found in the vehicle. They said Collins was asked to exit the vehicle and was showing multiple signs of impairment.

Collins reportedly told officers he did not have a driver’s license when they asked for one.

Officers said they later learned that Collins’ driver’s license was suspended in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014 and 2024. They said Collins was labeled a habitual traffic offender in 2014 and had his license permanently revoked for four or more DUI offenses.

Officer Collins was arrested and is being charged with driving under the influence (DUI), driving with a suspended or revoked license with knowledge, and refusing to submit to testing.
