Lakers finalize full coaching staff under JJ Redick

As the Los Angeles Lakers prepare for the upcoming season, the biggest change to the team during the offseason has been at the head coaching position. Former NBA point guard JJ Redick replaces former head coach Darvin Ham, giving the Lakers an injection of fresh ideas.

Despite Redick’s lack of experience, the Lakers have great confidence in his overall potential. They believe he can put players in different positions to succeed and can maximize the team’s current roster.

Redick has been in the basketball world since retiring a few years ago, as a podcaster and ESPN announcer. He recently broadcast the NBA Finals and was hired as the Lakers’ head coach shortly after.

Due to his inexperience, Redick prioritized the addition of more experienced coaches to his coaching staff. The Lakers announced the final list of coaches who will work with Redick during the upcoming season.

Veterans Nate McMillian and Scott Brooks will headline the list of top assistant coaches. Bob Beyer, Greg St. Jean, Beau Levesque and Lindsey Harding will round out the rest of the staff.

Redick has been preparing for this opportunity for years, but having an experienced team that has been through the long NBA season should help him. Both McMillian and Brooks have extensive coaching experience, with Brooks leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to the NBA Finals in 2012.

In addition to McMillian and Brooks, Harding is currently the head coach of the Stockon Kings, the G-League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, with whom he had great success and won the G-League Coach of the Year award.

The new Lakers coach will have plenty of people to lean on during his first season. In addition to the coaching staff, Redick can also get help from his players.

He’ll have LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the roster as the team looks for another potential title run. Los Angeles was eliminated from the playoffs in the first round last season, but Redick was brought in to help them get over the hump in the loaded Western Conference.

Los Angeles has run into the Denver Nuggets in the last two postseasons, losing both series to them. Denver has been kryptonite for the Lakers, but the team is feeling good about itself heading into the new year despite the lack of changes to the roster overall. With the coaching staff now in place, the Lakers can focus firmly on getting everything else ready for the new season.
