Hillsboro Hops breaks ground on new 0 million stadium and event venue

HILLSBORO Ore. (KPTV) – The Hillsboro Hops broke ground Thursday on a new baseball stadium in Hillsboro.

The construction of the new stadium will create over 1,200 new jobs, which is exciting news for the city of Hillsboro. And once it’s completed, the city will have a brand new baseball stadium and the Hops will have a new home.

But officials say it will be much more than a baseball stadium. They call it a large space that will serve as a dynamic community gathering place and benefit the region for years to come.

Hillsboro Hops manager Kale Worel said being able to keep Minor League Baseball in Hillsboro and preserve the beloved Hillsboro Hops is what’s important.

“I just want everyone to know that we’re so thankful for this fan base that we have here,” Worel said. “We’re so thankful for the staff that we have, the best management, I’m so lucky to work with them. And this stadium is for all of you. This is a community asset, a community gym, this is going to be the best facility in the country. I promise you that by the way we operate it. Fan-first attitude, fan-first approach, affordable entertainment, first-class memorabilia. Go Hops!”

The nearly 300,000-square-foot ballpark will feature three levels with plenty of space for circulation, seating and a terrace for parties. The outdoor area will include an edge-of-field seating area, a children’s play area, a picnic area and a beer garden.

There will also be a 32-foot canopy to protect guests from the elements year-round.

And in terms of capacity, the space can accommodate 6,000 guests for baseball games and approximately 7,000 for events such as concerts, food festivals and farmers markets.

The $120 million project is being funded through a combination of public and private sources and is expected to be completed in 2026.
