ISIS terrorist Rizwan Ali arrested in Delhi with weapons and ammunition ahead of Independence Day

New Delhi[India]August 9 (ANI): The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested Rizwan Ali, a wanted terrorist with alleged links to the ISIS module, just days ahead of Independence Day celebrations in the national capital, an official said.

Rizwan was arrested on 8th August 2024, at around 11 pm, near Ganga Baksh Marg, Delhi, based on secret information received by the police. One Star pistol with a .30 bore, 3 live cartridges and 2 mobile phones were recovered from his possession. A case has been registered with the Special Cell of PS, Delhi.

Rizwan, a resident of Daryaganj in Delhi, had a reward of Rs 300,000 on his head, announced by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his involvement in terror activities, the Special Cell of Delhi Police said.

Rizwan was part of the Pune branch of ISIS and was on the run. His presence in the capital ahead of Independence Day is being investigated.

The NIA also released Rizwan Ali’s photograph along with that of other men on the run and wanted for terror links.

Earlier, Delhi Police had stepped up security measures and put up posters of several terrorists linked to Al Qaeda and Khalistan.

Police have put up posters across the city and encouraged people to help them catch the terrorists. Delhi Police have said that those who provide information about the terrorists will be given an “appropriate” reward. However, the names of the informants will be kept secret.

Police said security measures are being taken to raise awareness among the public and help police track down terrorists.

According to the police, there are fifteen terrorists mentioned in the posters, of which six are associated with Al Qaeda. To ensure the security of the nation, ahead of Independence Day, Punjab Police has also taken heightened security measures by conducting searches at all bus stands across the state, earlier this week.

The cordon and search operation was carried out simultaneously in all 28 police districts, with police teams, with the help of sniffer dogs, frisking people arriving and leaving bus stops. (ANI)
