Jun Zhu, a U of A professor of agricultural and biological engineering, was inducted as a fellow of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) at the society’s annual international meeting in Anaheim, California, in July.

Membership is the highest honor bestowed by the society and a testament to Zhu’s exceptional work and dedication as a professional engineer during his 32 years as an ASABE member.

According to the society’s guidelines, induction as a member is reserved for individuals “of unusual professional distinction, with outstanding and extraordinary qualifications and experience in or related to the field of agricultural, food or biological systems engineering.”

To be nominated for this prestigious honor, individuals must be members of the society and have at least 20 years of professional engineering experience.

Zhu said, “I am honored and grateful to have been selected as a member of the Grade of Fellow group. I am also grateful to be recognized as an ASABE Fellow with outstanding and extraordinary qualifications and experience in my professional field.”

Department head Terry Howell Jr., also a member of the society, expressed the department’s immense pride in Zhu’s significant honor.

“Being named an ASABE Fellow is a wonderful recognition of Dr. Zhu’s professional achievements; it means that his work has not only contributed to our profession but has also had a positive impact on our world. We are very excited for him,” Howell said.

Zhu also shared that this recognition not only celebrates his achievements but also underscores the excellence of the U of A Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering.

“I feel this is an honor not only for me but also for the department,” Zhu said.
