Central Alabama Crimestoppers partners with the City of Dothan

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) -Central Alabama Crimestoppers is partnering with the City of Dothan.

This will help the police in the fight against crime.

Central Alabama Crimestoppers is a nonprofit organization that works to combat crime in several cities and counties across the state.

He is now working with Dothan to continue the fight against crime.

“We’re taking over Crimestoppers from the Dothan Police Department. They had a Crimestoppers program and most Crimestoppers programs require resources, manpower, man hours. We consider our program to be one of the best in the country. The reason is if you call us, you can talk to a person 24/7,” said Tony Garrett, executive director of the nonprofit.

Central Alabama Crimestoppers provided training to local law enforcement on its software system.

The most important goal is to help local agencies combat two obstacles related to community engagement: fear and lack of concern.

“We provide that resource, like our app, the p3 tips app, or the phone number you can call. Once you give us information, you remain anonymous. We send the information to that software and it goes directly to that investigation,” Garrett said.

Since 1997, Crime Stoppers has awarded more than $276,000 in rewards to those who have provided important information.

Most importantly, he has played a role in solving crimes, from murders and cold cases to robberies.

One notable case Crimestoppers was involved in was the capture of Darin Starr, one of the brothers involved in a murder-for-hire case in Coffee County.

“Our main goal is to be a bridge between the community, the media and law enforcement,” Garrett said.

They are working around the clock to help solve even more problems.

Anyone with information about a crime in Dothan can submit tips anonymously to this new division.
