Spain vs Germany: Preview, predictions, team news

Spain will face Germany in their final match of the Paris 2024 Olympics, and La Roja could take home their first Olympic medal in women’s football with a win.

Spain came into the 2024 Paris Olympics as one of the favourites to win the tournament but were unable to overcome Brazil in the semi-finals. The reigning World Cup champions had been perfect in France this summer until they suffered a 4-2 defeat to the Seleção, crushing their dreams of playing in the gold medal match. La Roja must now settle for bronze, but only if they can get past Germany.

Germany also lost its semi-final match and lost any hope of leaving France with a silver or gold medal on Tuesday. Horst Hrubesch’s team was unable to overcome the United States, which remains unbeaten under Emma Hayes. Still, Die Nationalelf can secure a place on the podium with a win over Spain, but will likely be without two of its best players.

Here it is 90 minutes Guide to the Spain vs Germany match at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

News from the Spanish national team

In the semi-finals, Spain were outclassed by Brazil and many of La Roja’s problems can be attributed to their surprising starting eleven. In particular, Alexia Putellas was a substitute and did not come into the game until the 77th minute. The Barcelona midfielder made the difference instantly and showed exactly why she should start against Germany.

Real Madrid player Athenea del Castillo is also expected to regain her starting place in attack after being substituted at half-time in the semi-final.

Prediction of the result of the match Spain vs Germany

Both Spain and Germany have put in medal-worthy performances at the Paris 2024 Olympics, but Spain have a slight edge against a weakened German side. Horst Hrubesch’s side have not scored in their last two games and could find success against La Roja’s defensive line, but it’s a tough call to go against the reigning World Cup champions, especially if they field their strongest XI.
