DoorDash and CEO Edward Buckles launch campaign to help people experiencing food insecurity

DoorDash is highlighting how food delivery can help break down barriers for people experiencing food insecurity with a heartwarming new campaign for Project DASH, the company’s initiative to empower food banks, food pantries and other community organizations. Directed by Greenpoint Pictures’ Edward Buckles (Buck) Jr. in partnership with DoorDash’s in-house creative studio, Superette, “The Food Chain” films showcase the partnership between DoorDash and hunger relief organizations working tirelessly to break down barriers to food access.

Recently, DoorDash’s Project DASH proudly celebrated a milestone: over 100 million meals delivered to people experiencing food insecurity in the U.S. This achievement is made possible through partnerships with organizations like Meals on Wheels America, United Way Worldwide, and Feeding America. This campaign highlights the dedicated efforts of these organizations and sends a powerful message: ending hunger is a collective effort, and together we can make a difference.

These films aim to highlight the stories and normalise asking for help, following the journey of a meal from the farm to a table in need. This film follows the life of a young girl and her family, beginning with her eating the last orange from the fruit bowl. The story then moves on to a farmer picking oranges, interspersed with scenes of family life, leading up to the oranges being packed up at a local food bank and delivered to the family’s home.

“Growing up in New Orleans, I am very familiar with food insecurity,” Buckles said. “Many of the neighborhoods I grew up in were food deserts. Especially after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, not only taking away our homes and belongings, but also some of the few neighborhood food stores that existed. Addressing issues like food hunger in local communities takes a village, so I can support any project that allows me to highlight those doing what they can. I want to make sure we do this project justice by creating a film that explores the DASH Project food experience while also feeling authentic and intentional.”

Our hope is that this public service video The Best Job You Might Never See will actually be seen by many people, because it can help save lives.

Recent statistics show that drug overdose deaths in the United States declined slightly in 2023, but the crisis is far from over. Illegally manufactured fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid, is increasingly found in counterfeit prescription pills and illegal drugs, putting many young people at risk.

In response, the Ad Council has introduced life-saving PSAs, including this one, which instructs viewers on how to use naloxone (also known as Narcan and ReVive), which is sold over-the-counter and can reverse an opioid overdose. These PSAs, developed in collaboration with R/GA and supported by YouTube, are part of the Ad Council’s partnership with the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP). The new tutorials, led by Damien Drake through the production company Versus, give young people crucial, step-by-step guidance on how to administer naloxone nasal spray to someone suffering from an opioid overdose.
