Additional charges announced for man and woman in connection with deadly shooting in Sumter County

SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WIS) – A man and woman accused of fatally shooting a Rembert man are facing additional charges related to the Aug. 4 incident, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).

Deputies said Terone Justin McCray and Nia Laprece Wright, who turned themselves in Wednesday and were charged with murder, now face attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

On the day of the shooting, deputies said McCray and Wright fired at a car in which Jaquen Marquel Jefferson was riding. The shots hit the car and killed Jefferson, according to deputies.

However, the shots missed the driver of the car, so officers also charged McCray and Wright with the new charges.

On Thursday morning, a judge denied bail for McCray and Wright. They are now awaiting trial at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
