Megan Thee Stallion releases a music video for ‘Mamushi’ with Yuki Chiba: watch

Megan Thee Stallion brings her love of Japanese culture to life in her latest music video.

On Friday, August 9, the 29-year-old Grammy-winning rap star released the long-awaited music video for her viral hit “Mamushi” featuring Yuki Chiba, though it arrived a little late due to some technical issues. “Girls we had technical difficulties but we’re live now!” Megan announced on social media. “MAMUSHI VIDEO IS AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE GIRLS GET ON IT.”

The Kevin “Onda” Leyva-directed visual was filmed in Tokyo, with the rapper’s collaborator Chiba and Japanese actor Shô Kasamatsu (Vice President of Tokyo and Gannibal), who helped unravel a sexy but sinister story that begins at a spa and ends somewhere else with Megan creating her own army of blue-faced gangsters who invade said spa.

The NSFW video begins with Kasamatsu playing a spa client who is introduced to a room full of beautiful Japanese women and a lovely Megan, who whisks him away only to swallow him whole when she transforms into a mamushi, the venomous Japanese viper — a nod to the rapper’s current snake motif.

It goes on to show how Megan, as the Viper, preys on the gangsters at their spa, sneaking up on them naked in a steaming pit before they meet their end. She then teams up with Chiba, who takes the deceased victims away to prepare them to join the rapper’s army – a scene that also pays homage to Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s 1990 film. Dreams.

The video for “Mamushi” also highlights Megan’s viral choreography that she debuted in late June and has since become a TikTok phenomenon. She performed it during the final leg of her Hot Girl Summer tour, which kicked off in Minneapolis on May 14. She also performed the song with Chiba for the first time during her final tour stop in London.

“We about to do something really cute for the last show of the Hot Girl Summer stadium tour. We ain’t done this shit the whole tour,” Megan told the crowd, according to a video shared by NMEbefore bringing out his rap collaborator.

The rap star had been teasing the song’s music video for days after that, releasing a snippet on social media in early August with the caption, “It’s almost time #MAMUSHI.”

Megan has been on a hot streak since releasing her self-titled third album in June. After wrapping up her summer tour, the rapper made notable appearances at the Broccoli City Festival on July 27 and Lollapalooza on August 1.

Days later, she celebrated her tour with a recap video on Instagram captioned: “The #HotGirlSummerTour was EVERYTHING I LOVE YOU BEAUTIFUL I will definitely have to do this tour again!!!”
