RCTC football team loses first game in overtime – Post Bulletin

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Rochester Community and Technical College football team came within a whisker of a win in its season opener.

After the game went into overtime, the Yellowjackets scored on the opening possession but missed the extra point. Nassau Community College then followed up with the winning extra point after scoring a touchdown on the next possession to take a 28-27 victory Saturday at Cleveland Central Catholic High School in Cleveland, Ohio.

It was a matchup between the top five teams in NJCAA Division III, with NCC ranked No. 4 and RCTC ranked No. 2. RCTC was the national runner-up last season.

With a roster comprised of many first-year players and new starters, third-year coach Terrence Isaac Sr. wasn’t 100% sure how the team would respond to the 10-hour bus ride to Cleveland. NCC, which is in Garden City, New York, had reached out last year to discuss a possible game and the two teams decided to meet halfway in Cleveland.

For many it was a good first experience of college football and also a good learning experience.

“We have to match the intensity of the other team,” Isaac Sr. said via text message. “We didn’t do that today.”

No statistics were available as of 11 p.m. Saturday night.

RCTC’s next trip will be to fill Isaac Sr.’s previous coaching position at Minnesota North College-Vermilion. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31.

Occasionally, our newsroom publishes articles under a “staff” byline. Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news summaries that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and that require little or no coverage. Sometimes, this byline is used when a story includes multiple authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from multiple sources. If outside sources are used, this is noted in the story.
