A 27-year-old man from Telangana, Mohammed Shehzad Khan, died in Saudi Arabia after his GPS stopped working

Mohammad Shehzad Khan, a resident of Karimnagar, had been working in Saudi Arabia for three years in a telecom company.

The incident occurred when Shehzad, accompanied by his Sudanese colleague, got lost in the desert after their GPS lost signal. Shehzad’s phone battery also died, leaving the two unable to call for help, NDTV reported.

Soon, their vehicle also ran out of fuel, and the two men were left without food and water due to the scorching heat. Being stranded in the dangerous desert area called the Empty Quarter is almost a guarantee of death.

Stretching for 650 kilometres, the Rub’ al Khali is known for its harsh conditions and extends across the southern regions of Saudi Arabia and into neighbouring countries.

Although both men struggled to survive, the temperatures were extreme and dehydration and exhaustion took hold. Their bodies were discovered on Thursday, four days after they ventured into the desert, lying next to their vehicle in the sand dunes.

The car they were driving had stopped, forcing them to wander through the desert. Their bodies were found on a prayer rug, according to the Free Press Magazine.

Sources from Shehzad’s family told an online news platform Daily SiasatThey would prefer to maintain their complete privacy at this painful time.

No information has been found about Shehzad’s colleague, who was a Sudanese citizen.
