Harris will also need the votes of men

The Democratic Party has become the party of women.

I listened to the rhetoric emanating ad nauseam from the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this week (I felt the same sickness when I watched the Republican convention a month ago) and all I heard was what the party and Kamala Harris were going to do for women.

Does Harris or the Democrats plan to do anything for men in this country? Have men been completely excluded from the Democratic landscape? Has the playing field changed so drastically that men will no longer have rights under a Democratic regime?

Yes, women make up the majority in this country, but it will take a substantial number of male votes to bring Harris to the White House, and the Democratic candidate is making no effort to win them over.

Men are starting to ask themselves: “What’s in it for me? Will my life be better or worse with Harris as president? Do Democrats even care that men exist?”

I’m beginning to have doubts. It’s all about women. The Democratic candidate will go to Washington to defend women. Harris, or so it seems, will be the president of the women of the United States. To hell with men!

Does the Democratic presidential candidate believe that all men are Republicans, that they are already committed to Donald Trump and have no chance of getting his votes?

I have news for Harris. There are plenty of men who can’t stand Trump and are looking for a viable alternative. But why vote for a candidate whose only interest is improving the situation of people of their own gender?

Abortion rights were so central to the Democratic National Convention that you might think every woman in America faces the procedure every week. Men too often stay out of the abortion rights debate because they are afraid that anything they say will be used against them.

Maybe they should get involved. Abortions affect men too. It takes two to tango, and maybe the father of an unborn child should have a say in whether the fetus lives or dies. In this country, fathers have no rights, only responsibilities.

But Harris isn’t preaching to fathers or men, just to women. Her entire campaign strategy seems geared toward getting as many female votes as she can. I have news for her: There are plenty of women in this country who oppose abortion on demand.

Harris’s (and the Democrats’) economic policy appears to be Robin Hood: taking from the rich to give to the poor, except the rich in this case are working-class Americans. President Biden has already doled out tax money to banks and the government to pay off student loans, and now Harris wants taxpayers to subsidize first-time homebuyers with a $25,000 tax credit.

In a nation whose national debt now exceeds $35 trillion, both ideas only exacerbate an economic problem that will one day have to be acknowledged. At some point, the bill has to be paid. That money has to come from somewhere, and it is usually the middle class that pays.

Both Harris and Trump have been relatively silent on energy, but a Democratic regime seems certain to continue Biden’s current policy of restricting drilling and fracking on public lands, which could lead to higher gas prices in the future. Trump, during his previous administration, was less restrictive.

Both Barack and Michelle Obama receive high marks for their speeches at the Democratic National Convention. The former president and his wife are first-class people. Obama, who inherited an economic disaster in 2009, receives very little credit for pulling this country out of the Great Recession.

There was more name-calling at the Democratic National Convention than at the Republican National Convention. Everyone was focused on attacking poor Donald, whose ego can be deflated by the name-calling.

Now that the conventions are over, both parties have assured us that, if elected, their candidate will do amazing things for the American people. Now the real campaigning can begin.

Trump is relying on his loyal supporters, while Harris is counting on the women of this country to lead her to victory.

Maybe we should let them share power: Trump will be the president of men and Harris the president of women.

Who would you vote for? Well, Mickey Mouse is always a good write-in candidate.

Yes, we have reached that point.
