Recently ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said she had instructed authorities concerned to prepare in advance amid fears of catastrophic flooding in Bangladesh.

He also expressed deep concern over the recent floods that have devastated several districts in southeastern Bangladesh, the Awami League said in a statement issued today (August 25), quoting the former prime minister.

According to the statement, Hasina asked her countrymen to support those affected by the disaster.

Hasina also urged her party members, supporters and people from all sections of society, especially the wealthy, to come forward and help the flood-affected communities.

“The sudden onset of this flood has severely affected several districts in the south-east,” he said, urging everyone to join hands to extend a helping hand to those in need.

“In the past, our efforts to combat floods were successful due to the prompt response of the leaders and activists of the Awami League and its allied organisations. I had also instructed everyone to prepare in advance for such a dangerous flood as early as the first week of July this year,” the statement said.

Sheikh Hasina also expressed her condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the current floods, praying for the departed souls and urging the families to remain patient during this difficult time.
