Post-swim event to bring people together

The Salvation Army will host post-swim parties with coffee and bacon biscuits (BBC)

A Guernsey charity is hoping to provide a sense of belonging to islanders with a new monthly event.

The Salvation Army cafe, in Nocq Road, St Sampson, will be offering coffee and bacon rolls every month after the swim to “create a community atmosphere” for swimmers.

Community coordinator Jill Chadwick said the event was not limited to swimmers.

She said: “It’s not just about swimmers, obviously the cafe will be open to anyone interested – hopefully we can create a nice atmosphere on a Saturday morning and we’ll see who comes along.”

Ms Chadwick said: “It will be something a little bit different and we hope the northern swimmers will get behind it.”

He said he hoped the event at the center would be welcoming to everyone.

Ms Chadwick said: “People often feel like they lack community and we are trying to provide more areas where people can come in and find a community they can be part of.

“From my previous experience working in different roles, I know how important it is for people to feel like they belong.”

The first event will take place on Saturday, October 5th.
