Heavy rain to lash several Odisha districts; IMD issues orange, yellow warnings

Several districts of Odisha are very likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall activities under the influence of a possible low-pressure area over Bangladesh & neighborhood, India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted on Sunday.

According to a bulletin issued by the regional weather office, the upper air cyclonic circulation over southern Bangladesh & neighborhood lay over the same region extending up to the middle tropospheric level today.

“Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region during the next 03 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to become more marked and move westnorthwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha and Jharkhand during subsequent 2 days,” the bulletin read.

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore and Bhadrak.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Malkangiri and Koraput.

Day 2 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 26.08.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 27.08.2024)

Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Jharsuguda.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Bolangir, Nuapada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack and Sambalpur.

Day 3 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 27.08.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 28.08.2024)

Day 4 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 28.08.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 29.08.2024)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Nawarangpur, Malkangiri and Koraput.

Day 5 (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 29.08.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 30.08.2024)

Yellow Warning: Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada and Bolangir.
