Executioner Adam Page details the ‘lies’ he told himself after winning the AEW World Championship

It’s been nearly three years since “Hangman” Adam Page achieved his destiny, winning the AEW World Championship after defeating Kenny Omega at Full Gear 2021. While his run with the title saw him successfully defeat the likes of Bryan Danielson, Lance Archer, and Adam Cole, the night he won the title has gone down in history as one of the most celebrated victories in AEW history.

Page recently revealed in an interview with “Paste Magazine” that the lead-up to his big win, as well as the initial aftermath, was a time when he told himself a lot of lies, some of which he wished he’d never told himself.

“It was the biggest accomplishment of my career, one of the biggest accomplishments of my life. And the night I won it, I told myself that. I told myself a lot of lies on the way to getting it,” Page revealed. “I told myself that I wasn’t good enough, that I would never get it. They all turned out to be lies. I wanted to tell myself one last lie, and that lie would be that I would hold on to it until the day I die. And, looking back, I wish that hadn’t been a lie. I wish that had been the truth.”

Page had a chance to regain the AEW World Championship in 2024, but lost at Revolution in a three-way match that also featured then-champion Samoa Joe and current champion Swerve Strickland, a man Page is determined to not only make miserable, but erase from AEW altogether.
