A boy was killed in a drunken driving accident on Route 1 involving a stolen car, police say

A 10-year-old boy was killed Saturday night in a drunken-driving crash after a man stole a car from a Gillette Stadium parking lot and crashed into a car carrying a family of six on Route 1, according to state police.

Around 8:30 p.m., Michael Escolas, a 42-year-old Oxford resident, was driving a stolen 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee at a high rate of speed when he rear-ended a Nissan Altima that was stopped at a red light near the intersection of Route 1 and I-495 in Plainville, Massachusetts State Police said. The Nissan was carrying a family of six consisting of a mother, father and their four children.

All six were seriously injured in the crash and taken to local hospitals, police said. One of the children, a 10-year-old, was pronounced dead at a hospital.
