College volleyball: Ridgewater wins 1 of 4 in inaugural tournament - West Central Tribune

ANOKA — The Ridgewater volleyball team started the season 1-3 after competing in the Minnesota Collegiate Athletic Conference Crossover Tournament on Friday and Saturday at Anoka-Ramsey Community College.

The Warriors began the season with 3-0 losses to Central Lakes College and Minnesota North-Rainy River. They opened play Saturday with a five-set win over Minnesota North-Hibbing before losing in three sets to Minnesota North-Mesabi Range in the final.

Against Mesabi Range, Rachel Jakel led Ridgewater with 12 kills and 13 digs. Jakel is a freshman from Renville County West.

Alli Malmgren finished with four first-time aces. She is a sophomore at St. James.

The Warriors will host Alexandria Tech at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Ridgewater secured its first win of the season with a five-set victory over Minnesota North-Hibbing in Anoka.

Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg freshman Eben Overcash led the Warriors’ offense with 21 kills. Rachel Jakel added 16 kills and 17 digs.

Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted sophomore Emma Kallio racked up 47 assists.

Alexis Owens chipped in with four kills and 10 digs. Owens is a freshman from Willmar.
