Congressman Carbajal highlights federal investment of 9,752 to improve Santa Maria storm drainage – edhat

Carbajal secured more than $13,500,000 for 14 community projects on the Central Coast earlier this year

Congressman Salud Carbajal joined Santa Maria Mayor Alice Patino to highlight the impact of the $959,752 in federal funding she secured earlier this year for storm drain system improvements in Santa Maria.

The improvements, which will include new stormwater pipe installations throughout the city, are critical to addressing flooding and protecting homes, businesses and neighborhoods as severe storms become more common in the region.

“I am proud to have secured $959,752 for storm drainage improvements in Santa Maria,” said Congressman Carbajal. “This funding will support the creation of new stormwater pipes throughout our city, addressing flooding issues and protecting our homes, businesses and neighborhoods. As severe storms become more frequent, these improvements are essential to ensuring our community remains resilient and protected.”

“This funding will address several flood-prone areas in Santa Maria,” said Mayor Patino. “Then we can finally repair those roads to a higher standard, as we have planned for years.”

These funds will be used to improve stormwater infrastructure in the area around North Miller Street and East El Camino Street, a region that frequently experiences severe flooding during heavy storms.

The project is scheduled to begin in December 2024.

Construction is expected to be completed in late spring 2025, followed by a period of final adjustments and system testing.
