Hattiesburg man shot dead; suspect turns himself in and is charged with murder

LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – A 19-year-old Hattiesburg man has been arrested and charged with murder in a fatal shooting Saturday night in Lamar County.

Jamario Deshaun Calloway turned himself in to the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday after an arrest warrant was sworn in naming him as a suspect in a shooting that left a 29-year-old Hattiesburg man dead.

Lamar County Coroner Blake Matherne identified the victim as Shawndarin Terrell Porter.

The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of multiple gunshots heard in the McKenzie Circle area Saturday night.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Porter, who had been shot multiple times, LCSO said.

An initial investigation led to Calloway being the suspect, LCSO said, and warrants were issued for his arrest.

LCSO said Calloway turned himself in Sunday and was booked into the Lamar County Jail on a murder charge.

Calloway will remain in jail pending his initial appearance in Lamar County Justice Court.

LCSO said the investigation was ongoing.
