Local organization organizes “Walk for Well-Being” for mothers

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – In Holyoke, a local organization is providing a space for life givers.

Motherhood is a superpower in itself and demands that women give their best for their families every day. But mothers are human, and some days the stress of motherhood takes a toll on the mind and body.

“I feel like as mothers, we change not only mentally, but physically, in the way we adjust to parenthood,” said Erin Robles, a Springfield mother.

One local mother is hoping to solve this problem. Kelsie Dwight recently founded A Mother’s Meditation, an organization focused on creating programs and services for the well-being of mothers.

“I really wanted to bring together a community of moms so they could, you know, do that for themselves, to give back what they received,” Dwight said.

On Sunday in Holyoke, the organization hosted a wellness walk around Ashley Reservoir, inviting mothers and their families to get outside and reduce any stress they may be feeling.

Experts say that walking and physical activity can improve your mood by increasing your heart rate, which increases the release of endorphins and serotonin, the feel-good and happy hormones. For stressed-out mothers, this is crucial.

“Take some time for yourself, so you can, you know, de-stress, move around, exercise, get outside and just take in the beauty of the outdoors that’s all around you,” Dwight added.

For those looking to relieve some of the pressures of motherhood, Dwight encourages them to join “A Mother’s Meditation,” get outside and enjoy nature with other moms.

“Get started. Get started,” Dwight said. “Join something like this and gain a little more confidence in yourself.”

“This is a great way to find moms who will love you and care for you and just connect with you,” Robles added.

With their walk today, these mothers reduced some of the stress in their lives while giving each other the strength they need to heal and thrive together.
