On Sunday, people associated with the television industry took out a candlelight march against the rape and murder incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The brutal rape and murder of a medical intern at a hospital has sparked outrage across the country. The incident shocked the entire nation and several protests have since been organised to demand justice for the victim.
Earlier, the Indian Secular Front (ISF) held a protest on Sunday in Bhangar region of South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, demanding justice in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case.
The protesters demanded punishment of the culprits and demanded the resignation of the West Bengal Health Minister.
ISF chief and Bhangar MP Pirzada Mohammad Naushad Siddiqui said, “We want the culprit to be punished as soon as possible… There is corruption in the health department and the health system has collapsed… We demand that the health minister resign… If the state government cooperates with the CBI, justice will be done soon. That is why we want the Bengal government to cooperate with the CBI… The police are not doing their duty… We are protesting in all constituencies and we only want his family to get justice… The whole of Bengal wants justice in the RG Kar case.”
Earlier, CBI officials conducted a polygraph test on the arrested accused, Sanjay Roy, in connection with the rape and murder of a junior doctor in Kolkata.
In a related development, Parimal Dey, a teacher from Alipurduar in West Bengal who was honoured with the Banga Ratna award by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in 2019, has decided to return the award in protest against the state government’s handling of the rape and murder incident at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
