49ers’ No. 1 pick to practice in time for regular season start

While rookies such as Renardo Green, Dominick Puni, Jacob Cowing, Malik Mustapha and Isaac Guerendo have impressed at different points in the preseason, the San Francisco 49ers have been without their No. 1 pick in the class of 2024 for the entire preseason and most of training camp.

Ricky Pearsall, the 29th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, has been dealing with a shoulder injury that has kept him sidelined for his rookie preseason campaign. However, the former Florida Gators receiver could return to the practice field just in time for the regular-season opener.

During a conference call with media members on Sunday, head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that Pearsall will return to practice on Monday. Pearsall could practice for two weeks before the 49ers make their regular season debut against Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets on Monday Night Football on Sept. 9.

Pearsall played three seasons at Arizona State in the Pac-12 before transferring to the SEC. In two seasons at Florida, Pearsall racked up 91 receptions for 1,626 yards with 12 total touchdowns.

Pearsall will have the chance to compete with Cowing and veterans Chris Conley and Trent Taylor for a spot behind Jauan Jennings and Deebo Samuel on San Francisco’s wide receiver depth chart.
