Toledo woman accused of stealing victim’s identity and spending thousands of dollars at Home Depot

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A Lucas County grand jury has indicted a Toledo woman after police say she stole someone’s identity and spent thousands of dollars in their name.

The grand jury indicted Stephanie Cress, of Toledo, on Aug. 27 on charges of theft from a person in a protected class, a fourth-degree felony, and identity fraud on a person in a protected class, a third-degree felony.

Charging documents allege Cross created a Home Depot account in the victim’s name in December 2023 and charged thousands of dollars worth of merchandise at the Alexis Road location in Toledo. It’s unclear whether Cress knew the victim personally.

He is expected to face a Lucas County Common Pleas judge in the coming days.
