UPAWS Hosts Labor of Love Adoption Event Over Labor Day Weekend

SANDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) – The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter (UPAWS) is celebrating the holiday weekend with an adoption promotion.

From Thursday through Sunday, September 1, UPAWS is waiving adoption fees for dogs and cats six months or older and all small critters, including rabbits, rats, and gerbils.

Ann Brownell, community outreach and volunteer coordinator for UPAWS, said many animals are looking for homes.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s at UPAWS or another local shelter, just look at the animals there,” Brownell said. “And if you’re looking for a purebred animal, you already know that 25 percent of the animals that come into a shelter are purebred, so take a look before you go out and buy one.”

The adoption event begins on Thursday, August 29 and continues through Sunday, September 1. The shelter is operating by appointment only.
