Kenov Williams found guilty in Taco Bell murder trial

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – A man accused of fatally shooting two teenagers in 2021 was found guilty Wednesday.

A jury determined that Kenov Williams shot and killed Elias Lopez, 19, and Enrique Alvardo, 17, outside a Taco Bell in Guntersville three years ago.

According to testimony during the trial, Williams, 26, conspired with two co-defendants, Nicholas Cuzzort and Morgan Young, to rob Lopez in retaliation for stealing marijuana vape cartridges. Williams posed as a potential buyer of the drugs and arranged to meet Lopez in the parking lot of the Taco Bell on Gunter Avenue.

According to prosecutors, Williams got into Lopez’s car that night where he shot and killed Lopez and Alvardo, whom he did not know would be present.

Young and Cuzzort allegedly helped Williams escape the scene.

Medical examiner Jonrica Malone told jurors that Elias Lopez was shot five times and Alvarado four times.

Williams represented himself at the trial. During Monday’s proceedings, Williams blamed Cuzzort and said it was all his idea.

Williams said he only went to Taco Bell to buy drugs from one of the victims. He said the victim shot first and he responded in self-defense.

Williams faces life in prison without parole when sentenced.
