PVL postpones knockout semi-finals and do-or-die final due to power outage at PhilSports Arena

The power outage forces the PVL to move its remaining qualifying playoff matches to the Mall of Asia Arena and Araneta Coliseum at later dates.

MANILA, Philippines – For the second time in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference, the league is postponing a day of play due to unforeseen circumstances, this time its high-stakes knockout semifinals matches due to a power outage at the PhilSports Arena on Thursday, August 29.

Due to the impressive development caused by heavy rains in the area, the semi-final fights were moved to the venue reserved for Saturday, August 31 at the Mall of Asia Arena, while the elimination final was scheduled for Monday, September 2 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Top-seeded Akari Chargers were supposed to stake their historic 9-0 unbeaten streak against veterans PLDT High Speed ​​Hitters in the opening match, while the star-less Creamline Cool Smashers were to take their underdog narrative even further against second-seeded Cignal HD Spikers.

Both matches will remain at their respective times of 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday at the MOA Arena.

“The PVL sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this change may cause and appreciates the understanding and patience of all those affected,” the league wrote in a statement.
