Video: Naked man with knife sets house on fire, charges at LAPD officers

Newly released Los Angeles Police Department body camera footage captured a confrontation last month between officers and a naked robbery suspect who attacked them twice with a large butcher knife.

On July 29, police responded to a call about a burglary at a home in the city’s Beverlywood neighborhood, KABC-TV reports. A man, identified as Lavell Adams, had forced his way into a woman’s home and had begun barricading himself inside.

While inside, Adams set the house on fire. Home security camera footage also shows him grabbing a butcher knife from the sink and setting fire to a cloth on the stove.

Officers entered the home and found Adams curled up naked behind a nightstand in the bedroom. When they approached him, he lunged at them with his knife.

Police fired rubber bullets, but Adams refused to surrender. Officers retreated from the home and called in a SWAT unit.

During the confrontation, Adams emerged from the home wearing only a blanket and was ordered to the ground by officers. Adams again attacked police with his knife and officers opened fire.

Adams was struck by gunfire and died at the scene.
