Brick Township man charged with animal cruelty – NBC New York

A 56-year-old New Jersey man has been charged with a number of animal cruelty counts stemming from an investigation in which authorities allegedly removed 157 cats and three dogs from his home last year, authorities said Thursday.

The owner of a Brick Township home was indicted by an Ocean County grand jury for the events of May 4, 2023.

On that date, she called Brick Township police for help removing the animals from her home. Responding officers found hordes of cats and a few dogs. They were removed over the course of 24 hours and transported for treatment and evaluation. At that time, the homeowner was charged with failure to provide care to a living animal or creature.

A month later, prosecutors and police received final veterinary reports on the removed animals. They said 25 cats had to be euthanized and four suffered serious bodily injuries, all allegedly as a result of the inadequate care he received. He was arrested and later released under New Jersey’s bail reform laws.

No other updates on the case were provided Thursday.
