Hume debuts in Venice Beach as a luxurious community-based wellness club

When you think of Venice Beach, the iconic surfer-lined boardwalk might be the first thing that comes to mind, but fitness is a close second. Home to some of the most legendary fitness communities in the world, from the original Gold’s Gym to the famous Muscle Beach, athleticism is woven into the very fabric of this eccentric California community.

It’s also no news that over the past decade, Venice has seen a rise in pilates studios, boutique spas, and breathing classes aimed at the new generation of health and wellness enthusiasts. However, these typically operate as separate entities, requiring clients to organize their practices around pre-arranged schedules and the infamous L.A. traffic. The prospect of starting the day with a sunrise group yoga class overlooking the ocean, followed by a private strength-training session at a gym, then a cold soak, a shot of vitamin B12, and journaling while sipping a matcha latte with half almonds and half macadamia nuts (a Venice specialty!) — all before 8 a.m. — was uncommon. That is, until Hume landed on Main Street this month.

Designed to support both your fitness and recovery goals, Hume combines classic gym elements, contemporary wellness methods, diverse physical therapies, local hospitality, and a close-knit community of like-minded members all under one beautiful roof. The 13,500-square-foot indoor-outdoor property sits just steps from the Pacific Ocean in the heart of Venice, with views of the Hollywood sign on a clear day. Founded by former Kin Europhics COO Roger Briggs and developer and design aficionado Sandy Bole, their mutual love of the neighborhood and desire to bring people together in a new way fueled their ambitious journey.

“The demographics of the Venice community are truly fascinating. It’s unlike any other place in the world,” Bole says. “Residents here are very active. They enjoy walking and biking. They choose to live here to achieve a specific life balance. This lifestyle already existed, it was just fragmented. Hume was an idea to bring it all together in one place.”
