Event to mark International Overdose Awareness Day to be held in Northampton

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) — Members of the Department of Health and Human Services, in collaboration with several regional organizations, will host an event Thursday to honor lives lost to overdoses and raise awareness about the opioid crisis.

This year’s theme is “Together We Can,” which emphasizes the importance of collective action and advocating for policy changes.

This event will take place from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Forbes Library in Northampton.

Activities will include resource presentations, Narcan training and distribution, and community networking.

The formal program begins at 7 p.m. with guest speakers who have been affected by the opioid crisis, including family members and friends of overdose victims, as well as professionals in the field.

The evening will conclude with a commemorative lighting.

International Overdose Awareness Day has been observed since 2001, with the aim of reducing stigma and raising awareness about the prevalence of overdose deaths.
