Breeze invites college students to explore downtown Sarasota

SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – College students can upgrade their commute this year with free rides from Breeze.

New College, Ringling College, Suncoast Technical College and the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee have long-standing partnerships with Sarasota County Breeze Transit to provide students with free bus rides.

New College, Ringling College and USF Sarasota-Manatee can be reached via Breeze Route 99. The route, jointly operated by Breeze of Sarasota County and Area Transit of Manatee County, provides service to downtown Sarasota and downtown Bradenton every 20 minutes.

By showing their school ID, students can board the bus to explore shops, restaurants, theaters and outdoor events in the heart of Sarasota.

STC has a similar arrangement with Breeze Transit. STC’s campus is served by Breeze Route 6, which travels between downtown Sarasota and Sarasota Square Mall.

Breeze Route 99 and Breeze Route 6 operate Monday to Saturday from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

“Mobility has a significant impact on quality of life, but many college students do not own a car on campus. We do not want a lack of transportation to prevent them from experiencing the rich culture and amenities Sarasota has to offer,” said Director of Transit Jane Grogg. “We are so grateful for the support the college community has shown for public transportation.”

Breeze buses can be tracked on the Breeze Rider mobile app or via the website //breezetransit.net/breezerider. MCAT Route 99 buses can be tracked on the MCAT myStop app.
