NC State football redshirt freshman receiver ‘ready to play’

NC State football wide receiver Noah Rogers is the only Wolfpack player on Shaun Alexander’s 37-man freshman roster that the Maxwell Football Club revealed Wednesday.

Rogers, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound freshman who did not play on the national team and was selected as a four-star player out of nearby Rolesville High School (North Carolina), is a big-play threat who transferred to NC State from Ohio State in January and impressed coaches in fall training camp. As a rookie with the Buckeyes, the speed demon appeared in four games but did not make a reception and managed to keep his redshirt, giving him the opportunity to spend up to four years with the Wolfpack.

During the Wolfpack’s spring game, Rogers caught seven passes for 133 yards and a touchdown.

NC State football’s social media team acknowledged Rogers’ candidacy for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, given annually to the top freshman in all of college football, with the following post and the caption “ready to go”:

Heading into NC State’s Week 1 home game against Western Carolina at Carter-Finley Stadium at 7 p.m. ET Thursday (ACC Network), Noah Rogers’ only appearance on the Wolfpack’s depth chart is on special teams as a kick returner alongside freshman running back Hollywood Smothers, a transfer from Oklahoma and former four-star prospect at West Charlotte High School.

Dave Doeren’s 12th-seeded NC State football team is the heavy favorite against the Catamounts, so maybe Noah Rogers will get some opportunities to play wide receiver in the opener.
