FAMU names university alumna as new police chief

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Lieutenant Audrey Alexander will serve as Florida A&M’s new police chief, effective Sept. 13, 2024.

According to a FAMU press release, the FAMU alumna has more than 29 years of law enforcement experience in the university’s Campus Safety and Security Department. She holds three degrees from FAMU, including a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and two master’s degrees in public administration and adult education.

Alexander also served for 24 years in the military, in the U.S. Army Reserve and the Florida National Guard. She was deployed to Iraq for a year to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“I am excited and honored to take on this new role and continue to serve our campus community with dedication and commitment,” Alexander said. “Having served the FAMU community for the past quarter-century, I am deeply committed to the safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff, and will work tirelessly to ensure our campus remains a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all.”
