A man was taken to hospital after suffering serious injuries in an incident involving a lawnmower near Marengo

A man suffered a serious injury after being cut by a lawnmower near Marengo and had to be taken to the hospital Wednesday morning, fire officials said.

Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts responded around 1:34 p.m. Thursday to the area of ​​Kishwaukee Valley Road and Savannah Lane in unincorporated Marengo.

Alex Vucha, communications specialist for the Marengo Fire and Rescue District, said crews initially received a call for an unknown medical emergency.

Paramedics arrived to find a male patient who had suffered a severe traumatic injury caused by a lawnmower.

Fire department radio signals indicated the man was cut by the lawnmower and was bleeding profusely.

Vucha said an unknown person applied a tourniquet to the victim to control the bleeding before paramedics arrived.

A LifeNet medical helicopter was requested due to the severity of the injury.

The helicopter landed in a field near the scene, Vucha said.

The victim was flown to Javon Bea Hospital – Riverside in Rockford in serious condition.
