Heavy rain alerts eased in India and Telangana

Weather report: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall alerts for several regions in India as the intensity of rainfall decreases in Telangana. The latest IMD bulletin highlights that heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Mulugu districts of Telangana on September 4, 2024. Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning and strong surface winds are forecast in Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam and Mahabubabad.

Detailed weather forecast for various regions

In and around Hyderabad, the weather is expected to be generally cloudy during the next 24 hours. The city may experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds. Temperatures are forecast to range between a high of 27°C and a low of 23°C.

The IMD has also forecast heavy rainfall in Kerala and Mahe from 2 to 4 September, and in coastal Karnataka on 2 and 3 September. For northeast India, the IMD predicts heavy rainfall from 2 to 5 September in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura; from 2 to 5 September in Arunachal Pradesh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands; and in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on 4 and 5 September. Bihar is expected to experience heavy rainfall on 4 September and Odisha on 5 and 6 September.

Orange and red alerts for extreme weather conditions

The IMD has issued an orange alert for very heavy rainfall in eastern Rajasthan on September 7 and 8. Scattered heavy rainfall is also forecast in Uttarakhand, eastern Rajasthan, Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana-Chandigarh. In addition, heavy rainfall is expected in western Uttar Pradesh on September 4 and eastern Uttar Pradesh on September 6. Western Rajasthan is forecast to receive heavy rainfall from September 4 to 8.

A red alert has been issued for Gujarat, specifically in Bharuch and Surat districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy showers on September 4.

Update for Delhi

In Delhi, residents enjoyed sunny weather on Tuesday, with temperatures soaring to 36.2°C, exceeding the seasonal average by more than two degrees. The India Meteorological Department has forecast generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms for the city on Wednesday. The capital remains under a “yellow” alert, indicating a possible worsening of weather conditions that could disrupt daily life. After morning rains on Monday, the city recorded a high of 33.6°C, and temperatures on Tuesday continued to rise. Humidity levels have varied between 60% and 83% throughout the day.

Today’s Air Quality Index Report

The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Noida on September 4, 2024 is 63, which falls in the moderate category. While the PM2.5 level is 63, the PM10 level is 21. The weather is cloudy with a temperature of 27°C. Most residents are unlikely to experience any issues, though those sensitive to air pollution might notice minor discomforts like coughing or slight breathing difficulties.

The current air quality in New Delhi shows a PM2.5 concentration of 19, which is 1.3 times higher than the WHO-recommended 24-hour reference value. PM10 levels are at 45, while SO2 is at 6. Carbon monoxide (CO) is measured at 527, ozone (O3) at 9 and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) at 10. Despite these levels, air quality remains a concern, particularly as PM2.5 exceeds safe limits, highlighting the need for continuous monitoring and management of air quality in the city.
