Man charged with vehicular homicide in fatal five-vehicle crash

JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — The man police believe caused a deadly crash last week in Jerome County appeared in court Tuesday.

Zhou Ping, a 36-year-old Boise man, is charged with vehicular homicide for Friday’s crash at the intersection of Idaho Route 25 and U.S. Highway 93, according to court documents.

Ping ignored warning traffic control devices, failed to stop at a stop sign and caused a chain collision, Trooper Caleb Thompson said in the affidavit.

According to Idaho State Police, the driver of the black 2008 Honda Civic died at the scene. The intersection of U.S. Highway 93 and Idaho Route 25 was blocked for approximately five hours.

Following today’s arraignment, Ping is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 12 in front of Judge Stacey DePew, according to court documents.
