Buckeye director placed on leave due to police investigation

BUCKEYE, AZ (AZ family) — A West Valley school principal is on administrative leave due to a police investigation, authorities said Tuesday.

Buckeye Union High School Principal Joe Kinney has been placed on leave after Buckeye Union High School District Superintendent Dr. Steve Bebee said officials discovered detectives were investigating Kinney for “a personal matter unrelated to his work with the school or district.”

Bebee’s written statement said the move is district policy and that Kinney will be on administrative leave until further notice.

Kristin Kok, assistant principal at Buckeye Union High School, will assume the duties of principal.

“Our goal is to ensure that our students have access to an exceptional educational experience,” Bebee said.

Bebee said he could not comment further.

Buckeye police said it was an FBI investigation. The Arizona family has contacted the agency and is awaiting a response.
