Weather Update: Rain lashes parts of Punjab, Chandigarh; yellow alert issued | Punjab

Weather Update: Heavy rains lashed parts of Punjab and UT Chandigarh on Wednesday morning, bringing much-needed relief from the humid environment.

However, the rains affected life in several districts of Punjab, including Jalandhar and Ludhiana, as roads were flooded. Ludhiana received 11.2 mm of rain on Wednesday, leading to waterlogging in some areas. Long queues of vehicles were seen at many places following the rain. In the next 24 hours, the weather is likely to remain cloudy, with a risk of moderate thunderstorms in Ludhiana and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, a few hours of rain on Tuesday night exacerbated the flooding problem in Jalandhar, again submerging major roads and streets. The central part of the city was the worst hit, with knee-deep water inundating streets and spilling over shops, leaving commuters and visitors stranded for hours.

The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Punjab along with Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, western Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and northeast India in anticipation of severe rainfall.
