Elon Musk deletes post promoting Tucker Carlson video after backlash

Elon Musk has deleted a post on X, formerly Twitter, that promoted former Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s latest interview after receiving heavy criticism.

On Sept. 3, Musk shared a post from Carlson that included his interview with Darryl Cooper, a podcaster who hosts the history show. Martyr made. The pair discussed the Holocaust and the events of World War II, with Cooper making comments that were widely criticized for appearing pro-Hitler.

In the now-deleted post, Musk wrote that the interview was “very interesting. Worth watching.” He quickly received a harsh backlash along with Carlson, as Cooper claimed in the video that the Nazis did not intend to kill millions of people, but rather “ended up dead” because Hitler was not prepared for war.

Cooper and Carlson discussed the history of the Israel-Palestine conflict, immigration in Europe, the Civil Rights Movement and Black Lives Matter, and more in the interview, which lasted more than two hours.

Speaking about World War II, Cooper said Churchill was the “chief villain of World War II” and that he was “most responsible for that war becoming what it became, which was more than just an invasion of Poland.”

Cooper clarified that his belief that Churchill is the villain does not make Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin heroes and “that is not the case.”

The interview has garnered 21.3 million views, 37,000 likes and 10,000 X-rated views and has been criticized by liberals and conservatives alike. Former Congresswoman Liz Cheney was among those who referred to it as “pro-Nazi propaganda.”

Musk’s post expanding on the interview came the same week he received criticism for reposting a theory about why only “alpha males” should be able to vote, in which he also referred to the controversial opinion as “interesting.” That post remains visible on his website. The post of Carlson and Cooper’s interview appears to have been deleted early Wednesday.

Following his firing from Fox News, Carlson announced he would relaunch his show on X, then known as Twitter, in 2023 and has since hosted former President Donald Trump, convicted felon Larry Sinclair and former 2024 presidential candidate RFK Jr. Musk also aired a conversation with Trump on an X livestream during his presidential campaign.

Newsweek Magazine reached out to Musk, Carlson and Cooper for comment via email.
