Robin Williams’ mother ‘made him laugh out loud’ reappears: ‘It never goes out of style’

A resurfaced video of late actor Robin Williams’ mother “cracking him up” has gone viral, much to the delight of fans who say it “never gets old.”

The video clip, now trending on X, formerly Twitter, comes from a 1984 Mother’s Day special titled Superstars and their momswhich featured Williams and her mother Laurie McLaurin. As part of the special, Williams and McLaurin played a tennis match before having a sit-down interview together.

In the viral clip, Williams tells the camera that her mother has a “wonderful gag” in which she makes the sound of cutting a rubber band in half and pretends to pull it out of her nose.

Taking his son by surprise, McLaurin performs the stunt on camera, much to Williams’ delight. Mrs. Doubtfire The actor yells, “Oh mom, you’re going to do this,” before bursting into laughter.

The clip was posted on the social media platform by user @historyinmemes, along with the caption: “This video of Robin Williams’ mom cracking him up never gets old.” Fans were delighted to see the clip making the rounds again, with the post receiving over 3.1 million views and 26,100 likes.

“I love it, laughter is contagious,” wrote one social media user.

Another commented: “It’s so heartwarming to see a grown man reduced to laughter by his mother’s silliness. It just goes to show that no matter how famous or successful you are, you never outgrow the love and humour of your family. Williams’ mother clearly had a special way of bringing out childlike wonder and joy.”

Others commented that Williams’ laugh was “very joyful” and that “comedy seems to run in the family.”

Recognized as one of the world’s top comedians, Williams was best known for his roles in films such as Good morning Vietnam, Dead Poets Society and Disney animation Aladdin.

In 1997, he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Dr. Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting.

Tragically, Williams died by suicide in 2014 at the age of 63. The final autopsy report revealed that Williams had a diagnosis of Lewy body dementia.

Before his death, Williams suffered from insomnia, anxiety and mood swings. He was misdiagnosed with Parkinson’s.

Following his posthumous diagnosis of Lewy body dementia, his wife Susan Schneider Williams told CNN: “None of the doctors knew there was this phantom illness underlying all of this. When it was revealed, it was like finding out the name of my husband’s killer.”

Who was Robin Williams’ mother, Laurie McLaurin?

Born in Mississippi in 1922, McLaurin had a multifaceted career. She worked as a model and studied lithography.

McLaurin was married to Williams’ father, Robert Fitzgerald, a senior Ford executive, for 37 years before his death in 1987.

He died of heart failure in September 2001 at his home in Tiburon, California.
