Birmingham-based company breaks ground on million hospital project in Florida

The Sanders Trust, a Birmingham-based healthcare real estate investment firm, has begun construction on a new $31 million inpatient rehabilitation center in Lake City, Florida.

ClearSky Rehabilitation Hospital of Lake City will be located at 198 SW Real Terrace Drive. The general contractor is MJ Harris. The hospital was designed by architectural firm Studio +.

The Sanders Trust was selected as the developer of the 45,000-square-foot rehabilitation hospital, which will include 36 beds.

The center will feature private rooms, a gym with specialized equipment and individual therapy, a dining room, and an activity space so patients can receive therapy in rooms that emulate the conditions of their home. There will also be an outdoor therapeutic courtyard with walking areas.

The new hospital will provide rehabilitation care for patients recovering from injuries or illnesses such as strokes, brain injuries, hip fractures, spinal injuries, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and other medically complex conditions.

It is expected to treat more than 650 patients annually.

Executive Director Rance Sanders said the project “will not only bring state-of-the-art rehabilitation care to Lake City, but will also provide a vital resource for patients recovering from life-altering injuries and illnesses.”
