Governor Shapiro Welcomes Increased Education Funding During Visit to Bucks County Schools

Governor Josh Shapiro visited Morrisville Middle/Senior High School in Bucks County as part of his statewide tour to highlight the significant increase in education funding in Pennsylvania’s latest state budget. The budget includes a $1.1 billion increase aimed at improving several aspects of education, including stipends for student teachers, mental health resources, and school infrastructure.

During his visit, Governor Shapiro emphasized the importance of equal opportunities for all students to build successful futures, stating, “This budget builds on our progress by boosting investments in key areas while improving how we allocate funding, with a new formula that directs dollars to the schools that need them most.”

The Morrisville School District, which will receive $5.7 million (an increase of $200,000 over the previous year), expressed gratitude for the governor’s efforts. Superintendent Andrew Doster noted that the budget would allow for increased staff support, enhanced safety measures and increased resources for mental health, special education and early childhood learning.

Addressing the historically contentious nature of education funding debates, Governor Shapiro called for unity, highlighting shared community values ​​of quality education, safety, economic opportunity, and protection of freedoms and rights.

Education Secretary Khalid Mumin also commented on the future prospects of the state’s schools, saying, “Our investments today will pay dividends tomorrow.”

In terms of educational administration, Governor Shapiro reiterated his stance against the implementation of school district consolidations, preferring to offer support to voluntary decisions made by local districts.
