Video: ISS astronaut captures incredible video of meteorite streaking through atmosphere over Africa

TO US An astronaut aboard the International Space Station recently captured an incredible video of a meteorite exploding through the LandThe atmosphere of ‘s far above the north Africa.

Astronaut Matthew Dominick He shared the video in a post on X, formerly Twitter, and said it showed what was out of place.world pictures to some friends so they could better understand what exactly happened.

“They both thought it was a meteorite exploding in the atmosphere“Dominick said in X. “A pretty bright one called a bolide.”

A bolide, according to POT‘s Center for Near Earth Object Studies (CNEOS), is an astronomical term used for “exceptionally bright meteorites that are spectacular enough to be seen over a very wide area.”

Dominick shared two videos of the rare sight: one slowed down to one frame per second and a second time-lapse that captured a quick flash of light as the meteor streaked through the atmosphere.

The videos showed Earth from above as the ISS passed over North Africa. And just after the ISS passed over Cairo, Egypt, the bright green flash of the meteor could be seen.

Dominick launched to the ISS in March and has conducted numerous scientific experiments in space. He has also shared numerous spectacular photos and videos of what he has seen during his time aboard the ISS.
