Harvest Comments: Lake Catholic responded to a loss against Bishop Watterson with four straight wins. The Cougars’ new players are adjusting, and the biggest challenge on their schedule comes with the Lancer Invitational and a trip to Gilmour next week. … Kenston played well with its back against the wall in the second set against Walsh Jesuit. The Bombers were down, 6-1, in the frame but rallied to take the lead and complete a sweep. An upcoming slate against Mentor (Sept. 5) along with trips to Independence South and Hoban the following week will be a test of mettle. … Speaking of Mentor, the Cardinals have reeled off six straight wins, including three sweeps to open GCC play. They are finding a comfort level as a daunting stretch of trips to Magnificat (Sept. 4) and Kenston, and hosting Hoban (Sept. 9) awaits. … NDCL has won four straight and dropped just one set in those matches combined. The Lions’ strength lies in their work from the pins, but their blocking makes it a challenge for teams to find those gaps. … Beaumont responded to a loss to NDCL with a five-set win over Hawken. The Blue Streaks have emphasized their resilience after several five-set losses a season ago and have now won two of those types of contests. … Kirtland’s last four matches have gone to extra sets, and it is 3-1 in those encounters. The Hornets have a combination of size on the front row and an experienced, deep back row to keep them going in every contest. … Mayfield breaks into the Crop for the first time this year, largely because of experience on the front row that allows the back row to get into a rhythm. The Wildcats opened WRC play with a 3-2 win over North. Next up is a big test when South visits Sept. 10.
