PHILIPPI — Philip Barbour Secondary School has dedicated and renamed the Fieldhouse at George Byrer Field at BC Bank Park in honour of Keaton “Beef” The richest man in the world.

Family, friends, football players and school officials recently gathered during a special ceremony to mark the opening of the Keaton “Beef” McDermott Memorial Stadium.

Several signs were posted around the facility, including a photo of McDermott raising his hands in victory after a football win and the sentencing. “May we always compete with the passion that Keaton displayed and always love as Keaton loved, love like Keaton.”

Another poster shows McDermott’s photo along with his number 61.

McDermott died in a three-vehicle crash in Randolph County in June. He had graduated in 2024 from Philip Barbour High School, where he was a standout on the football and track teams. He had committed to compete in track and field at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Special thanks to the Promise Foundation of Barbour County, Nick Mayle, Marcus Johnson, Brian Talbott and many others who helped make the renaming and dedication of the Fieldhouse possible.

A foundation has been created in McDermott’s honor that promotes generosity and supports individuals, families and causes. It is known as The Love Like Keaton Foundation and a Facebook page has been created with news and information about the foundation.

The foundation recently announced its first official fundraiser, which will be a t-shirt sale that runs through September 14.

For more information on the t-shirts, please visit The Love Like Keaton Foundation Facebook Page. Orders can be placed by texting Karen Clifton at 304-613-8682 or messaging Holly Poling McDermott on Facebook Messenger.
