Law and order in Telangana’s Jainoor after clashes over alleged sexual assault of an Advasi woman

Asifabad (Telangana) (India), September 5 (ANI): The law and order situation is currently under control in Jainoor after violent clashes broke out over the alleged sexual assault and attempt to murder of an Advasi woman recently, the Telangana CMO said.

An accused was arrested after an Adivasi woman was sexually assaulted in Jainoor Mandal of KB Asifabad district in Telangana. On Wednesday, Adivasi organisations, including Tudum Dibba, called for a protest over the incident.

The administration spoke to both sides to ensure that the strike was carried out responsibly. However, some people began vandalising property and there was retaliation from the other side, leading to fires, stone-pelting and damage to property.

SP KB Asifabad and his team were the first to respond, along with additional forces from neighbouring districts of Adilabad, Mancherial, Sirsila and Jagtial and platoons of TGSP. SPs/DCPs from neighbouring districts joined in to control the situation. Over 1000 police personnel have been deployed to control the situation.

The Telangana CMO said that RAF is being deployed and DGP Telangana, ADG (LawOrder) and IG North Zone are constantly monitoring the situation.

The district administration has issued prohibitory curfew orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code and Section 163 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The public is warned against violating the prohibitory orders. Use of the internet has been banned in the areas as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of rumours and fake news.

A flag-waving march was held in the affected area and ban orders were announced. Pickets were set up to instil confidence.

“Special teams have been formed and investigations have been initiated into incidents of arson and violence to identify the offenders and strict action has been ordered against them as per law. The property losses that occurred during the violence will be assessed and forwarded to the government for necessary action,” the CMO said.

Police have asked all people to maintain restraint after the accused in the alleged sexual assault with attempt to murder case was arrested and remanded in judicial custody by the Jainoor police.

“The victim is undergoing medical treatment at Gandhi Hospital and all the expenses of the treatment are being borne by the administration. A compensation of Rs 100,000 has already been given to her,” the CMO added.

SP Asifabad has interacted with the elders of the area to maintain peace. People have been informed not to believe in rumours. The Telangana CMO said that circulation of provocative posts on social media without any truth can attract penal action. For any emergency, people can dial 100. At present, the situation is under control. (ANI)
